State of AI in Texas Report Survey Live!

Howdy! The State of AI in Texas Report (STAR) has been finalized.

AITX Community and UT School of Law is excited to hear what the community has to say! By mapping the AI landscape and understanding stakeholder interactions, we hope to identify key businesses involved with AI development in Texas.

And by learning about AI product usage and how to support needs of new AI developers, we aim to provide a report that will both inform smart AI policy and serve as a guide for businesses on AI development.

THE WHO – We Want to Hear From You: If you’re based in Texas and work at Startups, Scaleups, or Enterprises, this survey is for you.

This is your chance to have your voice heard.

Fired Festival by Gauntlet AI

Gauntlet AI is hosting Fired Festival, a free 24-hour AI-native engineering hackathon in Austin on June 12–13 for developers who want to adapt to how software engineering is changing. There's a nice prize as well.

Participants will take on a real engineering challenge: build a harness — a framework that an AI agent lives inside. The harness defines what the agent gets for free: guardrails that constrain its behavior, checkpoints that evaluate its outputs, clean interfaces for passing material in and out, and alarms that fire when something goes wrong. Teams can choose any domain; the focus is on designing robust systems around AI agents.

Participants will build overnight with Gauntlet instructors and mentors, demo their work, and compete for prizes. Meals and API access included. Bring your laptop.

There are limited spots for this event so be sure to register as soon as possible.

In this week’s edition you’re getting:

5 Upcoming Events

3 AI Community Stories

So let’s jump in!

Community Events

When: Tuesday, June 9 | 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM CST

What: We'll go beyond single-purpose scrapers and learn how to build better agent tools by combining multiple Apify Actors into one Actor with custom logic. The kind of tool you'd actually want to hand to an agent: scoped, opinionated, and built around a real task instead of a raw API.

When: Tuesday, June 2 | 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM CST

Where: Capital Factory, Voltron Room (1st floor) 701 Brazos Street · Austin, TX

What: Two Talks:

  1. One-Pass to Reason: Token Duplication and Block-Sparse Mask for Efficient Fine-Tuning on Multi-Turn Reasoning (NeurIPS 2025 Workshop) Link to Paper

  2. The (Hyper-spherical) Geometry and Dynamics of Hallucinations.
Based on Papers: “A Geometric Taxonomy of Hallucination in LLMs”, Marin 2026 https://arxiv.org/pdf/2602.13224v3
“How Transformers Reject Wrong Answers: Rotational Dynamics of Factual Constraint Processing”, Marin 2026 https://arxiv.org/abs/2603.13259
“Text Corpora as Concept Fields: Black-Box Hallucination and Novelty Measurement”, Kersting et al. 2026 https://arxiv.org/pdf/2605.05103"

When: Wednesday, June 3 | 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM CST

Where: Capital Factory 701 Brazos St · Austin, TX

What: Join us for an evening of practical content on getting AI agents from prototype to production. Expect a hands-on workshop where you'll deploy a real multi-agent system on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, with all infrastructure defined as code using Pulumi.

When: Wednesday, June 3 | 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM CST

Where: Capital Factory 701 Brazos St · Austin, TX

What: In this talk, Eric Albee, engineering leader and founder of EricCorp Dev, breaks down OpenClaw: the agentic AI framework that's quickly becoming a step function in how people build with AI.

When: Wednesday, June 3 | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM CST

Where: ACC - RGC 3000 1218 West Avenue · Austin, TX

What: We focus on agentic software development: multi-agent architectures, middleware patterns, LangChain + LangGraph workflows, DeepAgents, and real-world application building.

COMMUNITY STORIES

Tyler Robert, Vice President of Economic Development for the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce, discusses how regional collaboration and emerging technologies are shaping Central Texas's economic future at the Forging Central Texas Industry and Growth Summit. The conversation covers critical topics including AI integration, workforce transformation, defense innovation, and infrastructure investment as key drivers of the region's long-term economic trajectory.

Why it matters: This highlights how regional economic development leaders are prioritizing AI integration and infrastructure investment, creating potential opportunities for AI-driven security and automation solutions in Central Texas's growing economy.

Need to know:

  • The Forging Central Texas Industry and Growth Summit focused on regional collaboration as critical to Central Texas's future economy

  • Key discussion topics included artificial intelligence integration, workforce disruption, defense innovation, and international investment partnerships

  • Killeen is positioned to play a growing role in Texas's long-term economic trajectory through infrastructure investment and emerging technology adoption

Texas A&M University researchers are deploying artificial intelligence to assess the safety of thousands of untested chemicals in our environment. The groundbreaking work not only predicts chemical toxicity but also establishes confidence levels in AI predictions, addressing a critical public health challenge that affects everyone's daily exposure to potentially harmful substances.

Why it matters: This research demonstrates how AI can solve real-world problems at scale, transforming an impossible testing challenge into actionable insights that protect public health while showcasing the importance of building trust and transparency into AI predictions.

Need to know:

  • People are exposed to thousands of chemicals daily through products, food, and environments, but only a fraction have been fully tested for safety

  • Texas A&M's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is using AI to predict chemical toxicity and bridge critical data gaps in safety testing

  • The research uniquely establishes confidence levels in AI predictions, addressing the crucial question of how much these AI-generated forecasts can be trusted

United Texas Bank has successfully converted from a state charter to a national charter approved by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, positioning itself as a major player in crypto banking. The Dallas-based institution now holds the same federal licensure and direct Federal Reserve access as major money-center banks, while leveraging AI-driven payment infrastructure to capture global digital dollar transaction volumes.

Why it matters: This regulatory milestone demonstrates how AI-powered payment systems are becoming essential infrastructure for traditional financial institutions entering the digital asset space, validating the convergence of AI and fintech that AITX operates within.

Need to know:

  • United Texas Bank converted from Texas state charter to national OCC charter, gaining equal regulatory standing with Wall Street's largest banks
