Texas AI Summit 2027 CFPs Open
AITX Community has been around for over 3.5 years, running events and hackathons across Austin, Houston, and Dallas.
Part of our mission has always been to bring the AI community in Texas together, and to showcase what it has to offer to the rest of the world.
We're asking y'all to help with the next step.
We're throwing the Texas AI Summit in 2027, right here in Austin. We're looking for talks and workshops now!
We would love to see people from the community apply with their idea, or send this to a friend who might be interested.
Submissions are open now and close November 6.
AAIFF Global GenJam
October 8 to 10: The Global Virtual GenJam
The week before the festival, a free, fully virtual 48-hour GenJam will run in partnership with Machine Cinema and community partner AITX for creators anywhere in the world.
Seats are limited, so entry is by application, and organizers review portfolios to decide who is admitted.
The winning films will screen at Zach Theater on Saturday, Oct. 17th, and the winners will be recognized and awarded their prizes, including cash and credits, at the awards ceremony.

CodeCoogs Hackathon
CodeCoogs, the Computer Science club at the University of Houston, is hosting an AI Hackathon on October 23rd!
They're looking for corporate sponsors interested in supporting the event and connecting with UH students working in AI, machine learning, and data science.
Sponsorship opportunities range from $500 to $1,500, with options to participate in judging, host workshops, sponsor custom challenge tracks, and connect with emerging technical talent.
If you or anyone in your network might be interested in getting involved, feel free to reach out to [email protected]!
Let’s support the next generation of builders.
In this week’s edition you’re getting:

So let’s jump in!
Community Events
When: Thursday, October 8 | 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM CDT
Where: Austin, Texas
What: Join Anthropic and Tenex for a hands-on workshop where you'll orchestrate AI agents to write and ship real code-no slides, no demos, just building with Claude Code alongside expert engineers. Walk away with working software you've actually created and practical insights on integrating AI agents into your team's workflow, whether you're an engineering leader or business decision-maker.
When: Thursday, October 8 | 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM CDT
Where: Pershing Hall, Austin, Texas
What: Join us October 8th for "Agents at Work," where you'll see real-world demos of personal agents tackling everyday job tasks across industries-from practical walkthroughs showing how professionals actually use these tools to what still requires human expertise. Whether you're curious about emerging tools like GrokBot and Muse or want to share your own agent workflow, this hands-on meetup will help you understand how to leverage AI agents in your work without the technical deep dives.
When: Tuesday, October 6 | 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM CST
Where: Pinthouse BrewingAustin, TX
What: Join us after Verification Futures to keep the conversation going. Leave all the tech talks and booths for some relaxing drinks. Whether you're in town for the Verification & Semiconductor Futures Conference or an ATX silicon industry local, we're inviting people across the semiconductor ecosystem to connect: Design · DV · EDA · Architecture · AI · FPGA · Silicon · Startups
When: Tuesday, October 13 | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM CST
Where: Capital Factory Austin, TX
What: The interesting question is no longer whether Claude helps with revenue. It is what people built with it inside their own business, and what changed once they did. On stage: 4 to 6 cases, 7 to 10 minutes each. Real work people did with Claude to sell better, find customers, and run the process around those customers. Every case starts with the problem and ends with what came out of it: the tools, the approach, the result.
When: Monday, Oct 12 | 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM CST
Where: STATION Austin 701 Brazos St. · Austin, TX
What: Join Google and AICamp for an intensive, 90-minute in-person build lab where theory translates directly into functional software. Most AI tutorials stop at simple single-turn prompts, but scalable systems require autonomous agents that reason over live data, manage persistent context, and execute complex multi-step tasks. In this hands-on workshop, you will step beyond conversational interfaces to architect, configure, and deploy next-generation autonomous agentic systems using Google Cloud.
COMMUNITY STORIES
Crusoe has been tapped to develop Google's new AI data center campus in Armstrong County, Texas, marking a major expansion of AI computing infrastructure in the Texas Panhandle. The facility will feature a direct connection to 531 MW of adjacent wind power, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable energy for AI operations. Construction is already advancing on the project, which was announced on September 28, 2026.
Why it matters: This project exemplifies the growing intersection of AI infrastructure development and renewable energy, setting a precedent for how major tech companies can scale AI capabilities while meeting sustainability commitments-a model that could influence future data center projects industry-wide.
Need to know:
The campus will be directly connected to 531 MW of adjacent wind power generation, ensuring sustainable energy sourcing for AI operations
Crusoe was officially announced as the developer on September 28, 2026, with construction already underway in Armstrong County, Texas
This development represents a significant expansion of AI computing resources in the Texas Panhandle region, adding to the state's growing tech infrastructure footprint
A federal jury ruled Bexar County liable for Fourth Amendment violations after its criminal interdiction unit used AI surveillance to systematically target thousands of innocent drivers. Alek Schott's 2022 detention-where officers fabricated reasons for a stop and faked a K-9 alert to conduct an illegal search-became the landmark case that struck down the AI-assisted program. The verdict establishes critical constitutional boundaries for AI-powered law enforcement surveillance.
Why it matters: This precedent-setting case directly impacts how AI surveillance technology can be deployed in public safety applications, establishing legal guardrails that AITX and similar companies must navigate when developing law enforcement solutions.
Need to know:
The March 16, 2022 traffic stop of Alek Schott turned into an hourlong unconstitutional detention where Deputy Joel Babb used fabricated pretexts generated through AI-assisted surveillance to justify the stop and search
A federal jury found Bexar County systematically violated thousands of Americans' Fourth Amendment rights over multiple years through its AI-powered criminal interdiction program
The Institute for Justice successfully argued that the AI surveillance program enabled dragnet policing that violated constitutional requirements for reasonable searches, setting a landmark precedent for AI use in law enforcement
The race for Texas's 10th Congressional District has become a referendum on Big Tech's influence in rural America, with Republican candidate Chris Gober's close ties to Elon Musk taking center stage. The traditionally safe Republican district stretching from Austin to Houston is experiencing an AI-driven transformation, with new data centers and Musk's massive computer chip plant sparking fierce local opposition over concerns about power grid stress and water supply depletion. What was once a predictable race now serves as a critical test case for how rural communities respond to rapid AI infrastructure development.
Why it matters: This race demonstrates how AI infrastructure expansion is reshaping political landscapes and triggering grassroots resistance in communities unprepared for the resource demands of large-scale tech development.
Need to know:
Chris Gober, who led Elon Musk's political operation in 2024, is facing voter backlash in a district experiencing rapid AI-related development including data centers and a massive chip manufacturing plant
The 10th Congressional District, stretching from Austin to Houston's outer suburbs, was historically a safely Republican seat but is now competitive due to local opposition to Big Tech infrastructure
Residents are raising concerns about the strain AI facilities will place on the region's power grid and water supplies, making tech industry influence a central campaign issue
That’s all for now, folks!
