🏠️ AI House @ SxSW Recap

Our two-day AI House @ SxSW event was a tremendous success, bringing together Austin's vibrant AI ecosystem under one roof!

We’d like to thank DeAI space for being generous with their space.

We’d also like to thank SambaNova for sponsoring our happy hour on Day 1.

Day 1 Highlights

We kicked off with impressive demos from seven innovative companies: TensorStax, Toolhouse, Linkt AI, Camel AI, Morpheus, and Fynopsis. Each showcased cutting-edge AI solutions tackling different market challenges.

The day featured an insightful AI Agent panel discussion, exploring the future of autonomous AI systems and their practical applications.

We ended Day 1 with the SambaNova Happy Hour 🥳 

Day 2 Highlights

Our second day expanded with ten remarkable company demos: TAP Integration, Cofactor AI, Significo, Candle AI, TestDriver.ai, Ubiosis, Albatroz.AI, Sindarin.tech, Pepur, and Decision Sonar (by Shep Bryan)

We also had a surprise demo from someone on the Lovable team.

The open source panel sparked engaging conversations about collaboration and innovation in the AI community.

The open source panel was moderated by John Bockstanz and the panelists were Scott Wilcox, JJ Ashgar, and Adi Tantravahi

Special Feature: Mark Heaps from Groq delivered compelling talks both days on Groq's technology and vision, demonstrating their impressive capabilities.

Thanks to all participants and attendees who made this event such a vibrant showcase of Austin's AI talent!

  • What: ​​​A monthly session for builders all over the Austin area to learn about and build the latest AI technology.

  • When: Wednesday, April 2 | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM CDT

  • What: An evening of innovation, inspiration, and connection! Don't miss out on the latest in AI and LangChain Ecosystem technology.

COMMUNITY STORIES

Multiple bills targeting AI-generated child pornography are moving through both chambers of the Texas Legislature with strong bipartisan support.

Why it matters: Texas is joining 37 other states in updating laws to address how rapidly evolving AI technology has made creating and distributing exploitative images of minors easier, quicker, and more prevalent than ever before.

Need-to-know:

  • Senate Bill 20, which passed unanimously (31-0), would criminalize possession of AI-generated, computer-generated or animated obscene material depicting minors

  • The legislation establishes penalties of up to two years in prison and $10,000 fines, with stronger penalties for repeat offenders

  • Additional bills would allow victims to file lawsuits, create age restrictions for accessing AI tools, and strengthen protections against using AI for cyberbullying in schools

Irving-based Microsoft Cloud and AI solutions provider Quisitive Technology Solutions has been acquired by Miami-based H.I.G. Capital, a global investment firm with $67 billion under management.

Why it matters: This acquisition highlights the growing value of specialized AI and cloud services companies in North Texas, with Quisitive's expertise in Microsoft technologies positioning it as a key player in the region's tech ecosystem.

Need-to-know:

  • Quisitive's management team, led by CEO Mike Reinhart, will remain in place to continue the company's strategic growth

  • With approximately 500 global employees across eight offices, Quisitive helps clients leverage Microsoft Cloud solutions, Dynamics, Power BI, Azure, Copilot, and Fabric

  • The acquisition will allow Quisitive to accelerate its growth and expand its digital transformation, managed services, and AI solutions for mid-size and enterprise clients

During a meeting with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin in Austin, Governor Greg Abbott highlighted Texas' leadership in energy production and emerging technologies, positioning the state as a prime destination for AI companies and investment.

Why it matters: This international meeting underscores Texas' efforts to strengthen its position in the global AI race while leveraging its established energy infrastructure to attract tech companies requiring significant power resources.

Need-to-know:

  • Abbott emphasized Texas' top rankings in energy production, wind power generation, and utility-scale solar as key advantages for technology companies

  • The Governor highlighted the state's business-friendly policies and reliable electric grid as factors attracting global AI and semiconductor companies

  • Discussions included potential collaborations on energy strategy, particularly in liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to support Ireland's energy needs
