COMMUNITY STORIES
Austin-based CTX Patrol has teamed up with Oregon’s Daxbot to roll out AI-powered security robots in northeast Austin. “Palmer,” now cruising Windsor Park, streams video to trained human operators who can verify threats and call in responders.
Why it matters: It’s a live, local test of human-in-the-loop robotics—raising real questions about safety gains, costs, and community standards around cameras and facial recognition.
Need-to-know:
Robots patrol, humans monitor.
Helped catch an armed trespasser.
Cheaper than 24/7 human guards.
Robots take the risk, not people.

UT Austin researchers are studying how AI could support doctors in diagnosing conditions and planning treatments—especially for rural Texans with limited access to care.
Why it matters: Health AI could bridge gaps in Texas’ overstrained system, but concerns about bias and keeping “humans in the loop” remain.
Need-to-know:
Focus: rural access + chronic disease.
Surveyed 200+ medical pros—cautious optimism.
45% think patients would welcome AI care.
Big worry: bias + replacing human judgment.

Priority Power wants to build a 93,000-sq-ft data center near College Station’s Midtown, focused on AI and high-performance computing. Locals are pushing back, worried about noise, power use, and neighborhood impact.
Why it matters: Texas is fast becoming a data and AI infrastructure hub—but communities are weighing jobs and tax revenue against quality-of-life concerns.
Need-to-know:
CEO says “no crypto,” only AI/HPC.
Promises jobs + tax revenue.
Noise/power worries linger.
City council vote set this week.
