What: Meta and AITX are hosting a reception Nov 22 at Meta's downtown Austin office to celebrate the Austin Llama Hackathon (which starts the following day)
Join us for appetizers, drinks, demos, and a panel discussion about the value of open-source AI. Connect with other innovators and developers who are shaping the future of technology.

Texas expands its AI leadership as South Texas College (STC) introduces the state's first dedicated AI manufacturing course, backed by Intel and recognized nationally.
Why it matters: This positions South Texas as a leader in workforce development for AI-enabled manufacturing, particularly helping small and medium-sized manufacturers adopt AI technologies.
Need-to-know:
First AI manufacturing course in STC's history, launching spring 2024
Intel partnership provides hardware and curriculum resources
STC was one of only five community colleges nationally invited to share AI programming practices in Washington D.C.
Course focuses on three key areas: predictive maintenance, quality control, and computer vision
Students learn practical applications like using sensors and data analysis to predict machine failures

Arlington is rolling out a $600,000 AI-powered traffic management system in its Entertainment District, preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup while building long-term smart city infrastructure.
Why it matters: This positions Texas at the forefront of using AI for urban infrastructure, potentially setting a model for other cities looking to modernize their traffic systems.
Need-to-know:
NoTraffic AI system will manage approximately 30 intersections around major venues
Technology prioritizes pedestrians and cyclists while optimizing overall traffic flow
System can predict traffic patterns and even prevent accidents by detecting potential red light runners
Funded through a partnership with North Central Texas Council of Governments
Project includes additional $6 million for dynamic message boards and enhanced traffic signals

The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) is deploying SambaNova's AI suite to enhance scientific research capabilities, marking a significant advancement in Texas's research computing infrastructure.
Why it matters: This positions Texas at the cutting edge of combining supercomputing with AI for scientific breakthroughs, particularly as TACC prepares to host the nation's most powerful university supercomputer.
Need-to-know:
TACC will use SambaNova Suite to integrate AI inference into scientific workflows
Partnership enables running multiple AI models simultaneously through an innovative Composition of Experts framework
System will support the upcoming U.S. National Science Foundation Leadership-Class Computing Facility (LCCF) launching in 2026
TACC's Frontera remains the most powerful university supercomputer in the U.S.
Project aims to fundamentally shift how scientists interact with computing resources

COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHT
This week, we're spotlighting Kal Clark, founder of Zauron Labs and upcoming panelist at the Meta hackathon kickoff reception.
Here’s a bit about him and what he’s doing:
Clark's work at Zauron Labs exemplifies how Texas entrepreneurs are using AI to transform healthcare, with their radiology AI platform already helping over 500 patients through partnerships with UT institutions.
Key achievements:
• Developed Guardian software suite that enables clinicians to earn Category 1 CME credits
• Partnered with University of Texas system to identify millions in lost reimbursements
• Created AI system that acts as a "safety net" for catching missed abnormalities in radiology
• Helped UT Health San Antonio identify approximately $2M in unknown revenue opportunities
• Built tools that enhance peer learning and review for radiologists
