COMMUNITY STORIES

A new artificial intelligence-powered insurance company, Mythen, has launched operations in Bermuda and Texas, offering parametric coverage for natural disasters typically considered difficult to insure.

Why it matters: This represents a significant shift in how catastrophic risks are being underwritten and managed, with AI and machine learning potentially making coverage more accessible for previously uninsurable or expensive risks.

Need-to-know:

  • Founded by insurance technology veteran Sandra DeSilva, Mythen uses AI, machine learning, and remote sensing to provide quick liquidity for hard-to-insure risks

  • The company's WindSpeed™ product offers up to $500,000 in coverage for named storms and hurricanes, triggered by specific events rather than actual losses

  • Parametric insurance is gaining traction globally as an alternative to traditional policies, potentially representing a more efficient model for certain types of risk transfer

Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) has implemented an artificial intelligence system from Vinci Highways' subsidiary ViaPlus to handle image review for its extensive toll road network.

Why it matters: The integration of AI in Houston's toll operations demonstrates how transportation infrastructure is evolving to handle massive traffic volumes more efficiently, with HCTRA managing over 600 million vehicles annually across 128 miles of highways.

Need-to-know:

  • The new "Sightline" AI solution will automatically process license plate images from video tolling operations

  • For images that can't be automatically processed, a team of human reviewers familiar with regional license plate designs will provide validation

  • The hybrid AI-human approach aims to ensure reliable tolling operations across one of the nation's busiest toll road networks

The first Stargate Project site in Abilene, Texas, will house approximately 400,000 of Nvidia's GB200 superchips, making it one of the largest AI computing clusters in the world.

Why it matters: This massive deployment represents a significant milestone in U.S. AI infrastructure development, with Texas establishing itself as the epicenter of large-scale AI computing capacity.

Need-to-know:

  • The $100 billion project is backed by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, highlighting unprecedented investment in AI computing infrastructure

  • Construction is already underway with the first phase expected to be operational in early 2025 and full completion targeted for mid-2026

  • The facility is designed to support both AI training and inference at exceptional speed and scale, potentially accelerating AI development significantly

COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHT

This week, we’re highlighting Georges Colbert from Albatroz.AI.

He was one of our amazing demos that came for the AI House @ SxSW.

His AI platform triages communications over phone and email, engages with leasing prospects after-hours or during busy periods, and books a tour if there is availability that matches their apartment search.

They help multifamily properties accelerate the lead-to-lease conversion.

You can connect with him here or book a meeting with him here.

That’s all for now, folks!
