COMMUNITY STORIES

Lambda Inc.—an AI cloud firm backed by Nvidia—is anchoring a $700M, 425K sq. ft. data center in Plano. This move puts North Texas on the map for serious AI infrastructure.

Why it matters: This is a major win for the state. Nvidia’s building the future of AI here—from chips to robots to supercomputers—and it’s happening on Texas soil.

Need-to-know:

  • Built for AI: The facility will support high-density GPU workloads with liquid cooling and next-gen hardware.

  • Local energy edge: Cheap natural gas and land give Texas a leg up on global markets like Taiwan.

  • More coming: TI’s dropping $30B nearby in Sherman. GlobalWafers is building a $5B plant too. North Texas is stacking chips.

Two new Texas House bills aim to force political campaigns to disclose when they use AI or mass texts to sway voters.

Why it matters: This is about trust. If AI is shaping opinions, voters deserve to know it. Texas is stepping up with some of the clearest disclosure rules in the country.

Need-to-know:

  • HB 366: Requires clear disclaimers on AI-generated content in political ads—images, audio, video.

  • HB 4960: Adds mass text campaigns to the list of regulated political ad formats with required disclosures.

  • The penalty: Up to $4,000 (or $10,000 for text violations) and possible jail time for not playing by the rules.

At the Convergence AI Dallas conference, policy experts suggested Texas’ AI legislation could become the template for national regulation.

Why it matters: We’re not just building models here—we might be building the rulebook. What Texas does next could shape federal AI policy.

Need-to-know:

  • HB 149: Would create a Texas AI Council, a regulatory sandbox, and biometric protections. It’s already passed the House.

  • Patchwork risk: With each state making its own rules, companies face messy compliance. A Texas-led standard could simplify things.

  • Federal eyes on Texas: Senator Ted Cruz and D.C. policymakers are watching closely to see how this plays out.
