Austin Energy Installs AI Cameras to Combat Wildfires

At a glance:

  • Recent rains in Central Texas could increase fire risk this summer

  • Wet weather promotes grass growth, adding fuel for fires during drier periods

  • Austin Energy is installing 13 Pano AI cameras on cell towers across Travis County

  • 5 cameras are already up, with the rest expected to be installed by June 1

  • AI cameras provide early warning detection, identifying smoke and pinpointing GPS locations

  • Alerts sent to fire departments for faster response times

  • Austin ranks 6th in the nation for homes at risk in a wildfire
